MAYORA & MAYORA announces the addition of three new attorneys to the Law firm in order to reinforce the Trademark and Patents, Financial, and Litigations departments for the importance of the transactions now advised. Attorney Gabriela Contreras Aguilera has joined the Trademarks and Patents department; attorney María Fernanda Morales, Corporate department; and attorney Estuardo Luna Santos, Litigations department.

Besides this, the International Law and Practice Section of the New York State Bar Association has included Dr. Eduardo Mayora among its members in the Regional Advisory Committee. Related to this, Dr. Mayor was invited to be a part of the Securitization of Assets panel at the seminar organized by the New York State Bar Association in Lima/Cuzco, Peru on September 2007. Rafael Briz has participated during 2007 in: a) “The Arbitration and Investment Protection in International Law” course taught by Ignacio Suárez Anzorena and Christian Leathley of the Department of arbitration at Clifford Chance LLP in London/New York, and b) The “International Commercial Arbitration” course taught by the Spanish Law Firm “Uria Menéndez”, sponsored by the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Guatemala. Ana Rosa Alfaro participated in: a) Atlas Conference: “Canadian/US Tax Issues of Doing Business in Latin America” in April, 2007 in Toronto, Canada, and b) the seminar organized by LATAXNET: “Tax and Fiscal Tendencies and Experiences in Latin America”. She was a panelist on the subject “New Tendencies and Restrictions in the Planning of International Taxes” held in Bogota, Colombia, on August 2007. Roberto Ayala participated in the “International Seminar on International Commercial Arbitration”, organized by the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Guatemala, June 2007, together with the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce of Spain and the Law firm “Uría Menéndez”. In the past couple of months Mayora & Mayora’s partner, Claudia Pereira, attended the Lex Mundi regional meeting hosted by Baker Botts at Houston, where several important matters regarding the legal profession were discussed. Suzel Obiols, one of Mayora & Mayora’s associates, spent one week at Lemle & Kelleger, L.L.P., the Lex Mundi Louisiana State member firm. This gave our colleague the opportunity to become acquainted with the legal system and professional practice in that jurisdiction, within the framework of the Lex Mundi exchange program. Ana Rosa Alfaro, another of our associates and a tax specialist at Mayora & Mayora, was one of the panelists at the recent IBA conference on Tax Incentives in Latin America, held in Miami. Next to other specialists in the region, Ana Rosa Alfaro presented and discussed the several systems that Latin American countries have enacted in this area of the law and practice.
